From April 22 to May 8, the ‘ hit .188 (9 for 48), filling those who predicted his imminent demise with glee. But since then, he’s batting .341 (14 for 41) with four home runs in 10 games.

I still think Davis’ batting average will graduallyt become their prime penalty taker.Gabriel Jesus followed recent examples from Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling in missing from 12 yards for City on Wednesday night as they recorded a narrow 1-0 win away to Sheffield United in the Premier League. And fall to about the .280 range over the next four-plus months, but he’ll have so many bursts of productivity during that time that you’ll hardly care. I recently moved him to 13th in , ahead of Freddie Freeman, making him more or less indispensable in all formats.

Coming into spring training, the main reason top prospect didn’t have a shot at making the major-league roster was because the went out and acquired Shin-So Choo in the offseason, leaving no openings in their outfield. Since then, they’ve lost starting left fielder Ryan Ludwick and his replacement, Chris Heisey, to injury. So wheeeeere’s Billy?

Stuck at Triple-A, unfortunately. He picked the worst possible time to go into an offensive funk, batting .205 in 88 at-bats. Their best options in the meantime are journeyman Xavier Paul and third-tier prospect Donald Lutz, so Hamilton’s opportunity hasn’t quite passed him by. Super Bowl 2020: Instagram model taken into custody after attempting to streak on the field at Super Bowl LIV

Cliff Branch to Canton in 2021? Family of Raiders’ legendary receiver keeping their Hall of Fame faith

While the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s is full of deserving inductees, there were a few  who were not part of this year’s class.

At the top of that list is former receiver Cliff Branch, a three-time champion who earned four Pro Bowl selections and three consecutive All-Pro selections during his 14-year career. Branch, whose blazing speed helped modernize the passing game, led the in receiving yards and touchdown receptions in 1974, his third NFL season. Two years later, he paced the NFL in touchdown receptions while helping Oakland capture its first Super Bowl win. In the early ’80s, Branch’s continued excellence helped the Raiders win two more Super Bowls, as Branch became one of the most prolific postseason receivers in NFL history.

Despite his accomplishments, Branch, who died in 2019 at age 71, never received the call to Canton. His family, howevx Ferguson to bury the hatchet.Keane has questioned whether the Scotsman always had the club’s best interests at heart. However, ex-striker Cole hopes the pair can settle their differences.”It’s disappointing but I’m just hoping that both of them can er, that Branch’s career will one day be immortalized in the Hall of Fame.

“It would mean the world to us,” said Elaine Anderson, Cliff’s sister. “It would mean everything to us, because we know that he’s deserving. His records speak for itself. It would mean everything to us.”

Anderson, who attended each of Branch’s Super Bowl wins with her siblings and parents, said that her brother always believed that he would one day earn induction into the Hall of Fame.

“He dreamed of it. He actually thought that he was going in one day,” she said. “He talked about it. And it was like so positive: ‘When I go into the Hall of Fame.’ He just felt, ‘Hey, I’ve earned it, I’m worthy, and it’s going to happen.’ My sadness is that he’s gone now, and I still believe he’s going. It’s not that I don’t think he’s going, I’m just sad because Marco Silva. While Duncan Ferguson impressed by winning his first interim game in charge against Chelsea, he is not likely to get the job full time. But he should be in charge for the Manchester United away game on Sunday. The Mirror says the Blues arehe’s not here to witness it. And I think, when you work that hard, you ought to be the one to witness your accolades, your awards.”

Branch would not be the first Raider to be posthumously inducted into the Hall of Fame. In 2016, a year after he died, Ken Stabler — Branch’s quarterback — was inducted. Like Stabler’s supporters prior to his induction, Branch’s supporters are trying to figure out what’s taking so long.

“I don’t know what it is,” Anderson said. “I’m searching my heart. I’m reading about players who are in, versus him not being in. I don’t know what it is, but I’m not giving up hope.”

While he played in an era where the passing game was still an offense’s secondary mode of transportation, Branch’s numbers rival any other receiver from that era. He has more career receiving yards than Lynn Swann, whose career is enshrined in Canton. He has more career touchdown receptions than Swann’s teositions at Brighton.Alzate has emerged as somewhat of a utility man for manager Graham Potter this season. He has played at right back, left wing back, right wing back, among the front three, and in central midfield. It is the latter where he prefers ammate, John Stallworth, who is also in the Hall of Fame. Branch has more catches, receiving yards, touchdowns and Pro Bowl selections than Drew Pearson, who was also bypassed for induction into the Hall of Fame this past year. Branch has three more All-Pro selections than Harold Carmichael, who is part of this year’s induction class.

As good as Branch’s regular season stats are, his postseason numbers are truly what sets him apart from his peers. Branch is currently fourth all-time with 1,289 career receiving yards, trailing only Jerry Rice, and Michael Irvin. Branch, who averaged 17.7 yards per reception during the postseason, has as many Super Bowl rings as Rice, Edelman and Irvin. His three Super Bowl touchdown receptions are tied with Swann, Stallworth and Rob Gronkowski for second all-time, behind Rice.

Branch’s longevity also helped set him apart. At an age where most receivers hang up their cleats, Branch was still playing big in big games. In Super Bowl XV, a 32-year-old Branch caught two touchdown passes in Oakland’s 27-10 win over Carmichael’s . Three years later, in Super Bowl XVIII, a 35-year-old Branch set the tone for the game with a 50-yard catch that set up his 12-yard reception, the first offensive score of the game. The Raiders never lost momentum, drubbing the defending champion , 38-9.

Unlike many players of his era, Branch trained year-round, a regiment that allowed him to play at a high level into his late 30s.

“He always trained,” Anderson said. “He trained in season and out of season. He ate the right kind of food. He’d get up early in the morning and work out and run and just whatever he needed to do to stay in shape.”

Branch excelled catching passes from both Stabler and Jim Plunkett, who saw a career rebirth shortly after joining the Raiders. Both passers benefited by having Branch, whose speed could break open a game while keeping opposing defenses on their toes.

“Every game that we went to, we saw signs that said: No. 21: Speed Kills,” Anderson said. “They didn’t have to put his name on it because we knew what they were talking about. We knew. That was just amazing.”

Anderson said that Branch first started dreaming of playing pro football when he was playing with the family’s electric football set as a child. She also recalled witnessing Branch’s speed, and his competitive drive, at their father’s Fourth of July company picnic when they were in sixth grade. During the picnic, there was a race, where the winner would receive Chinese Checkers, a prize Branch was determined to win.

“Clifford ran so hard and so fast, he won the race,” Anderson recalled, “and he got that game of Chinese Checkers. So on the way home, we had to hear that on the way home: ‘I won! I won!’

“So it was really at that point when we knew that he could run. We didn’t know that before then. So when he got to junior high school the coaches found out that he could run. And they started working with him and training him. But when he got to high school, he was on fire, and I think that’s when they taught him how to run.”

From there, Branch played at Colorado, where he averaged 25.4 yards per catch during his last season with the Buffaloes. A year later, he was drafted in the fourth round by the Raiders, where he would help the Silver and Black become one of pro football’s all-time great teams.

“They were bad boys,” Anderson said with a laugh. “They were all special in their own way. I think what they focused on was the team effort. This is about our team, and they always considered themselves a family. They were all good. At whatever position they played, they were excellent. But it took the whole team to win the game. One person couldn’t win the game by himself.”

While his family continues to take pride in the three Super Bowl wins, Anderson said that Branch’s connection to his fans may have been his favorite part of playing pro football.

“He totally understood that they loved him,” she said. “And I’m telling you, there wasn’t a game where you didn’t see ‘No. 21: Speed Kills.’ Somebody had to put it up, and he loved that. And he always took time for his fans. He loved his fans. I think his fans helped him become great.”

Branch also surely would have enjoyed seeing his career immortalized in Canton, something Anderson and the rest of Branch’s family hopes comes to fruition sooner rather than later.

“I’m now saying, how about 2021 for No. 21,” Anderson said. “It’s going to happen. And I’m still holding on to 2021.”

Senior Bowl 2020: Comprehensive scouting primer for this year’s pre-draft event in Mobile

The Senior Bowl is the unofficiaact with Udinese about a price for the midfielder.Indeed, West Ham have informed the Zebrette they’re willing to cough up for Fofana, though the Italians are reluctant to lose the player midseason. After defeat at Leicester City last night, Hammers bol start to NFL Draft season when most of America is introduced to some of the top talent in the incoming rookie class two months before they’rpool’s asking price for Loris Karius. The Mirror says Karius could be set for a return to Liverpool due to Besiktas being unable to finance a permanent transfer. The German goalkeeper was shipped out on loan to the Turkish club following his gaffes in e selected.

Believe it or not, because of the rigors of the regular season and, for some, the playoffs, it’s also the event in which many head coaches get their first impressions of draft prospects and that could mean something significant. For example, New York Giants general manager Dave Gettleman talked about falling in “full bloom love” with quarterback prospect Daniel Jones at last year’s Senior Bowl. Weeks later, Gettleman shocked the world by selecting Jones at No. 6 overall in the 2019 .

The week leading up to the exhibition game on Saturday, Jan. 25 is just as important — if not more important — than the game itself, and, below, I’ve answered the questions you might be asking yourself right now.

Who are the top prospects participating?

Kinlaw is primed to go in the first round and probably the top half of it. While he doesn’t have gaudy, traditional statistics to point to — just 10 sacks and 16 tackles for loss over his last two season at South Carolina — his film is overflowing with backfield disruption against the run and pass. He has high-level burst off the snap and long arms that routinely stun offensive linemen due to their power. It would not surprise me whatsoever if the week of practices concludes in Mobile and all the talk is about how Kinlaw was the most impactful defensive player.

Lewis has vines for arms and is a fine athlete at 6-foot-5 and 250-ish pounds. His frame actually could add around 10 more pounds to it without him losing any suddenness, a scary thought for offensive linemen. Lewis dealt with injuries early in his career at Alabama but was mostly healthy in 2019 and had six sacks and 11.5 tackles for loss in 10 games. Because he knows how to deploy his arms to fend off blockers with an array of pass-rushing moves, Lewis should hear his name called inside Round 1.

Herbert checks all the boxes from a physical perspective of playing the quarterback spot. And he was a full-time starter at Oregon for three seasons. His tape does feature some odd misses and stretches of ineffective play but is also loaded with impeccable, high-degree-of-difficulty strikes at the intermediate level and down the field. He’s patient in the pocket too. Despite the few dud games in his career that have been damaging to his stock, his solid-to-phenome by defeat at Newcastle United. The 26-year-old admits collective improvement and responsibility were now necessary for the team to take the required steps forward.”It was the first time it’s been really silent,” the defender said of the post-match fenal games should lead to Herbert going in the top half of the first round.

While not a towering outside cornerback, Fulton can play on the perimeter, and his stickiness in coverage is at the same level as consensus top cornerback Jeff Okudah from Ohio State. The LSU star has the feet, hips, and explosion to stay in phase (keeping up in coverage) with any type of receiver on a route with any amount of intricacy. And as we saw in 2019 when he tallied 13 pass breakups, he’s aware when the ball is arriving and knows what to do. It’ll be surprising if Fulton isn’t the second cornerback off the board.

Davis is a veteran striker on the back end for Cal, who flashes high-end deep middle range — a rare trait that gets safeties picked high — and a linebacker’s demeanor during his run-stopping efforts. Davis had seven interceptions and nine pass breakups over the past three seasons for Cal. At 6-1 and a chiseled 200 pounds with effortless, dynamic athleticism, Davis is bound to be the second safety off the board after Grant Delpit from LSU.

What’s at stake for the QBs?

There are two groups of quarterbacks at this year’s Senior Bowl. I’ll put Justin Herbert and Jordan Love together, the passers with high-end traits, streaks of inconsistency, but a strong likelihood to land in the first round (Herbert more so than Love).

Then, there are the Day 2 or Day 3 prospects — Jalen Hurts from Oklahoma, Anthony Gordon from Washington State, Colorado’s Steven Montez, and Michigan’s Shea Patterson — who won’t enter the week with a lot of expectations which means there’s a gigantic opportunity in front of them to gain positive traction during the pre-draft process.

Actually, I wrote a more in-depth piece on this very question recently. There’ll be .

Which prospects have the most to gain?

Herbert could undoubtedly do wonders for his stock with a steady week of practice and a game without blatant misses or moments of uncertainty inside the pocket. Beyond him, quarterback Jalen Hurts has the most to gain at the position. The former Alabama and most recently Oklahoma star has a running back frame and improved as a passer with Lincoln Riley this season but is still not at a level that screams starter because he’s not quick through his reads and likes to prematurely run from inside the pocket.

At running back, Ke’Shawn Vaughn, a thunderous but nimble back from Vanderbilt, could bolster his stock after a down senior year that followed an electric junior campaign in 2018 when he averaged 7.9 yards per rush with 12 touchdowns.

As usual, the small-school guys have much to gain. Which leads me to my next question and answer.

Who are some small-school sleepers to monitor?

Liberty recently moved up to the FBS level, but the strongest competition it faced in 2019 was a date with the Virginia Cavaliers, and the Flames lost 55-27. However, in that game, Gandy-Golden went for six grabs, 60 yards, and a score. At 6-4 and 220 pounds with subtle smoothness to create separation, physicality to beat press at the line, and a star rebounder’s mentality when challenged at the catch point, Gandy-Golden is a serious prospect. This is a perfect event for him because he’ll finally get the opportunity to face top competition. He caught 20 touchdowns over the past two seasons at Liberty with 70-plus catches in each campaign.

We are talking about a modern-day linebacker here. Davis-Gaither is listed at 6-2 and 215 pounds and is absolutely electric in space. He changes directions like a wide receiver and strikes like a much bigger outside linebacker. He had 101 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, and a stellar eight pass breakups this past season. ADG was blessed with long arms, has honed outstanding play-recognition skills, and has high-end range because of his athleticism and length. He is what today’s version of the NFL is looking for at linebacker.

Listed at a ridiculous 6-9 and 310 pounds, Taylor might be the tallest player in Senior Bowl history. Despite height that typically creates stiff movements, Taylor glides out of his stance as a pass protector and, amazingly, possesses the lateral agility needed to stymie inside rushes and ride defensive linemen out of the play. He certainly could add weight to get stronger, and he’s not always in the correct spot on combo blocks for the run game, but his size and athleticism combination cannot be coached. Taylor also plays with good knee bend, so he’s not routinely out-leveraged by shorter defenders, and every defender he faces is shorter than him.

Yeah, Dugger is from Lenoir-Rhyne, a Division II school in Hickory, North Carolina. If you are good, the NFL will find you. And Dugger is. At 6-2 and 220 pounds, he roamed the middle of the field in college and, his top gear is undoubtedly NFL caliber. Because he’s so big for the traditional safety spot, and his click-and-close is seemingly elite, don’t be surprised if he ultimately plays linebacker on Sundays.

Which prospects can play their way into the first round?

The long-time left tackle for Houston has an NFL body with plus athleticism and a controlled, balanced style of play. His footwork improved in 2019 — kick slide was kind of a mess in 2018 — and he simply dominated everything in front of him. The 6-7, 310-pound blindside protector has the athletic profile and experience teams adore, and with a strong week playing “up” in competition, we very well could leave Mobile talking about Jones as another first-round tackle in this class.

Uche is a speed-to-power demon with above-average bend and versatility to play off the ball in coverage. His multi-faceted game lends itself an NFL game that has become more positionless. If Uche wins with his acceleration off the snap, bend around the edge, and awesome speed-to-power conversion like he showcased at Michigan, the first round will not be out of the question for him.

Another edge rusher with linebacker traits, Baun is a twitchier, bendier version of Uche with less size and not as much pure power. Oftentimes, he lined up off the football and looked like a classic outside linebacker with his range and tackling ability but was at his best in 2019 flying around the corner and using his arms to keep longer blockers off his frame. He finished with 12.5 sacks and 19.5 tackles for loss as a senior.

Aiyuk is a speedster with good size at 6-1 and over 200 pounds. He’s more impressive running in a straight line than he is changing directions, but his instant acceleration and top gear will threaten NFL cornerbacks right away in 2020. He averaged over 18 yards per grab with eight scores in 2019 at Arizona State and was magnificent after the catch thanks to his athletic traits. A big week in one-on-one drills could catapult Aiyuk into Round 1.

2020 Senior Bowl: 10 players whose great week of practice will only improve their NFL Draft stock

MOBILE, Ala. — A year ago, and arrived at the Senior Bowl as prospects with something to prove to the 32 that still weren’t sold on how the skills that made them so successful in college would translate to the next level.

Both players were dominant all week, and both players parlayed that into higher-than-expected draft picks; Sweat went 26th overall to the and 10 selections later, the took Samuel, who ended his rookie regular season No. 2 on the team in receptions (57) and receiving yards (802) behind only .

All told, the 2019 Senior Bowl roster had 10 players go in the first round and 40 in the first three rounds. Those are mind-boggling numbers, but it felt like the 2020 group collectively had a better week than their predecessors from a year ago. At this point, just a day removed from the final practice, and still with Saturday’s Senior Bowl game to be played, that’s more anecdotal observation than empirical analysis but the takeaway remains the same: Expect many of the players on the field this week in Mobile to be playing on Sundays in the next season.

With that in mind, here are 10 winners from practice week.

It’s Senior Bowl Week, so which players have looked the best (and worst)? Ryan Wilson joins Will Brinson on the Pick Six Podcast to break down Justin Herbert, Jordan Love and evaluate draft stock for all the biggest names. Listen below and for daily NFL goodness.

Justin Herbert, QB, Oregon

We’ve written about Herbert all week and through three practices he has exceeded expectations in every way. He’s shown off one of the best arms in this draft class, he has thrown accurately and on time during 1-on-1, 7-on-7 and 11-on-11, and he’ll have a chance on Saturday to show what NFL teams they really want to see from him: His ability to command the huddle and be a leader.

Herbert is unquestionably a first-round talent, but he didn’t play close to that level during his junior season in 2018. He returned in 2019 and was much more consistent, but questions will follow him throughout the draft process. Going strictly by the tape, Herbert played more like a second-round pick last season but his physical attributes, along with his good showing this week — and the insatiable need for franchise quarterbacks — will almost certainly see him be among the first 32 picks, and in all likelihood, he’ll work his way into the top 15.

Jordan Love, QB, Utah State

Like Herbert, Love arrivy Real Madrid have handled his first weeks in Spain.Reinier scored his first goals for Real Madrid Castilla last week, having joined from Flamengo at the end of the January market. The attacker’s father, Mauro Brasilia, said on Cadena COPE: “Everythined in Mobile with a lot to prove. His 2019 tape was hard to watch at times, especially after his breakout 2018 campaign. There are many reasons for his struggles last season — new coaching staff, new offensive line, many new skill-position players — but Love admitted that part of the reason he regressed was that he was trying to do too much to help the team. In some ways, he was under less pressure in Mobile, where he’s had a lot of experience working with new faces.

Love was sharp in all three practices. And while the ball explodes out of Herbert’s hand, Love’s delivery was effortless — and yet with similar arm strength. Love also showed much better touch on deep balls, something that we saw throughout his college career too.

But is he a first-round talent? Without a doubt. NFL teams will have to convince themselves they can limit the mistakes that plagued him in 2019 when he had 20 touchdowns and 17 interceptions, but much like a year ago, Love will benefit from having much better players around him at the next level. In terms of his physical abilities, he’s drawn comparisons to , and like Mahomes, he’ll need to spend a year on the bench before easing into a starting role.

Denzel Mims, WR, Baylor

We’ve been saying for months that the 2020 wide receivers class is deep. That was confirmed in Mobile and Mims had a breakout week. The Baylor wideout is 6-foot-3, 215 pounds, and caught everything thrown in his direction. He high-pointed the ball well, showed off a huge catch radius, got in and out of his breaks like someone 3-4 inches shorter, and routinely beat 1-on-1 coverage, often early in the route. This was from Thursday’s practice but just as easily could’ve been from the two previous sessions:

Van Jefferson, WR, Florida

Jefferson is the son of former player and current wide receivers coach Shawn Jefferson — and he plays like it. Maybe the best route runner at the Senior Bowl, Jefferson regularly won against some of the best defensive backs in the country, and by the way, , too.

Coming into the week tn over Villarreal.Griezmann struck just six minutes into the game. Later, Barcelona scored again thanks to a goal from Arthur. Villarreal later pulled back a goal thanks to Santi Cazorla.”We had some chances to extend our lead but we didn’t take themhere were questions about why Jefferson didn’t put up better numbers at Florida last season but if you want a crash course on what type a player he is, just watch the LSU game; he had eight catches for 72 yards and two touchdowns, often while lining up across from Derek Stingley Jr., arguably the best cornerback in .

Adam Trautman, TE, Dayton

Trautman has NFL size — he’s 6-foot-5, 251 pounds — and he was at no point overwhelmed by better competition in Mobile. Trautman played at Datyon, an FCS program, but he was dominant throughout the week, both as a receiver and a blocker.

Dayton , but that will change this year when Trautman will almost certainly be a Day 2 pick.

, OT, Houston

A year ago, Jones considered leaving school early to enter the NFL Draft and he would’ve likely been a Day 3 pick. Returning to Houston proved to be the right decision for the athletic left tackle because he had a strong 2019 season and continued to impress NFL teams here at the Senior Bowl. He’s one of the most athletic offensive linemen in this draft class and that was obvious to even though half-paying attention in Mobile.

There’s more:

We’ve had Jones going in the first round in many of our weekly mock drafts prior to Senior Bowl week and that won’t change based on what we saw this week.

Terp winner admits the last year has been a career whirlwind.Hernandez stated: “It is true that it is a great transfer, I had been in Madrid for a long time, I was looking for something else, a new culture, a new mentality…”Once there, it is true the rell Lewis, EDGE, Alabama

The biggest question facing Lewis coming into the 2019 campaign was if he could stay healthy. He missed 2018 with an ACL injury and most of 2017 with an elbow injury. But in 10 games last season he had 11.5 tackles for loss and six sacks, and he showed up in Mobile looking every bit the part of NFL Pass Rusher. He’s 6-foot-5, 258 pounds and some NFL evaluators think he can add even more weight because at this stage of his development he’s a much at getting into the backfield .

This rep against St. John’s Ben Bartch is noteworthy not because Bartch is from a Division III school in Minnesota and would clearly have no chance against one of Alabama’s best defensive players, but because Bartch balled out all week, at no point looked out of his element, and this is one of the few examples where he was easily beaten.

Lewis has a chance to be a Day 1 pick and that was only aided by his performance this week.

Troy Pride, CB, Notre Dame

Pride had a solid but not spectacular 2019 season and we expected to pretty much see that play out in Mobile. But the Notre Dame cornerback. He’s slightly undersized by NFL cornerback standards (5-foot-11, 193 pounds) but was one of the toughest competitors on the field this week. Here he’s running Quartney Davis’ route for him during 1-on-1s:

And here he is again, showing up on 11-on-11 (at the bottom of the screen):

Few defensive players did more to help themselves this week than Pride.

Javon Kinlaw, DL, South Carolina

The only thing that could stop Javon Kinlaw was … Javon Kinlaw. He suffered an injury Wednesday, didn’t practice Thursday and he won’t take part in Saturday’s game. And that’s fine; he was dominant early in the week and only reconfirmed that he’s one of the best pass-rushing interior defensive linemen in this class, as evidenced by this rep:

Kinlaw, who could find his way into Round 1, also has an amazing story, which makes you pull for him even more.

Kyle Dugger, S, Lenior-Rhyne

Dugger weighed in at nearly 6-foot-1, 217 pounds. That’s big, even for Power 5 safeties, so imagine Dugger lining up against Division II opponents during his Lenior-Rhyne career. In the past, we’ve seen small-school players come to Mobile and need time to acclimatize to the bigger, stronger, faster competition. Dugger suffered none of that, and instead, we saw glimpses of his playmaking abilities that were on display weekly during the college season.

He could play a LB/S hybrid role at the next level, much in the same way Clemson’s Isaiah Simmons will be expected to do, and Dugger has the added benefit of being able to return kicks.

Honorable mention

Other players who had stellar weeks and improved their draft stock: Ohio State WR K.J. Hill, LSU OC Lloyd Cushenberry, St. John’s OT Ben Bartch; Michigan LB Josh Uche, Wisconsin EDGE Zack Baun, Ole Miss DT Benito Jones
